"'He was his master.'
‘Like Lockwood is yours.’
‘Like…’ I halted. ‘Well, that’s not worth reporting either.’
‘Come on, Luce,’ Lockwood said. ‘Spit it out.’
George’s pencil was hovering. ‘Yeah, got to record it all.’
‘Like Lockwood is my master. Happy now? I mean, the skull’s an idiot.’ I scowled over at them; Lockwood was scratching his nose as if he hadn’t heard, but George was grinning as he wrote."

"Just a quick look, and then we’re done. Burglary’s more fun than socializing, I always say."

Anthony Lockwood,”Lockwood & Co.: The Whispering Skull” (via quillandco)

that being said, i just have to freak out about a few little things below the cut

#tws spoilers #lockwood spoilers spoilers ahoy lockwood followers who have not finished the whispering skull!!!

His face was serene, his hair glistened; his eyes shone with dark intent. I watched him from the door.
"Yes, I’ll have a slice, thanks," George said. "If you can tear yourself away."

If you can tear yourself away from FUCKING CHECKING OUT LOCKWOOD’S HOT ASS GOOD JOB LUCY

"Your parents?" I was the first to find my voice.
"Close," Anthony Lockwood said. "My sister."

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME ENDING WITH THIS BULLSHIT FUCKIN HELL

“Lucy, you look delightful,” he said. “George, you’ll have to do. Oh, here’s something for you, Luce. Might go well with that excellent dress.” He took my hand and placed in it a necklace of pretty silver links, with a small diamond suspended as a pendant. It was really very beautiful.

“What?” I stared at it. “Where’d you get this?”

“Just something I had. I suggest you close your mouth when you wear it—it’s more elegant that way. Right, I can hear the taxi honking. We have to go.”

Such an ass, Lockwood but OMG YOU GAVE HER JEWELRY WAS IT YOUR SISTER’S DID SHE TELL YOU TO DO IT I BET SHE GIVES YOU ALL YOUR DATING ADVICE which is probably why you’re such a loser tbh

“At that moment the crowds parted, and Lockwood stopped speaking. A very tall and beautiful woman was walking toward us. She wore a slim, silver-gray dress that shimmered subtly as she moved. She had silver bracelets on her slender wrists, and a silver choker at her throat. Her hair was long and black and lustrous, falling round her neck in merry curls. She had very fine cheekbones, attractive if rather high, and an imperious, full-lipped mouth. My first impression had been of a person scarcely older than me, but her dark and sober eyes had the flash of long-established power.”

1) Ladies in power yes please thank you

2) Gina Torres is Penelope Fittes you can’t change my mind

“We make such a habit of doing this,” I said.

“I know. But it’s the last time.”

“Promise?”

But we were already running across the bumpy lead, building up as much speed as we could. Then we jumped out together, hand in hand.”

You fucking nerds, always jumping off of buildings. I hate you both so much.

“No!” I tugged at my wrists, so that Kipps’s chair rattled on the dirty brick floor. Tears filled my eyes. “If you do this, George Cubbins, I’m going to be so mad.”

“It’s all right, Luce,” he said. He smiled sadly. “All this mess is my own fault. And after all, it’s what I’ve always wanted, isn’t it? To uncover mysteries—to do something no one else has ever done.”

This book needs to be renamed Lockwood & Co.: GEORGE CUBBINS WILL BREAK YOUR FUCKING HEART FOREVER WTF

“Poor kid,” I said. Kat Godwin, sitting opposite, raised an eyebrow at me. I stared back at her, expressionless. I could do the stony-faced look too.

I ship it.

“At a quarter past three on the afternoon following our encounter with Flo Bones, two young teenaged tourists, slurping iced Cokes from giant paper flagons, turned out of Museum Street’s hot sunlight and entered the shady alley. The girl wore a True Hauntings T-shirt, a floaty knee-length skirt, and sandals. The boy wore a blue cotton shirt, an enormously baggy pair of shorts, and sneakers. Both had large sunglasses; they laughed and joked loudly as they strolled along.

Three doors down, they stopped as if on impulse outside the windows of the Bloomsbury Antiques Emporium and spent a little while staring at its array of dusty exhibits. The boy nudged the girl playfully in the ribs; he gestured at the store. The girl nodded. They walked to the doorway and went inside.”

You fucking assholes this isn’t CSI you little dipshits

From Kat Godwin’s constricted breathing I knew she heard it; whether the others did, I couldn’t tell.

“It’s gone,” Kat Godwin said. “It’s backed off. You think so too, Lucy?” “Yeah, the air’s clearing.…Wait, so you know my name as well.”

No, you don’t understand, I DEFINITELY ship it.

(my new headcanon is that kat is almost as Sensitive as Lucy, but she reacts to it in an opposite way; where Lucy is generally pretty emotional and lets her fear and pain be shown, Kat shuts it all down and becomes all stony-faced. i need more of her i need more of ALL THE LADIES, flo and penelope and now lockwood’s ghost sister what?)

also i can’t find the ghost jar quote i enjoyed so much but if i put down every quote that i wanted to talk about i would just have to copy+paste the whole novel whoops i should probably go write my russian lit paper now ugggh

hey for my like 3 lockwood followers, i probably won’t say much about the whispering skull on here rn, but if I do, for the next week or so i’ll be tagging those posts as ‘tws spoilers’ and ‘lockwood spoilers,’ as well as using my usual ‘lockwood & co.’ tag

When you go out hunting wicked spirits, it’s the simple things that matter most. The silvered point of your rapier flashing in the dark; the iron filings scattered on the floor; the sealed canisters of best Greek Fire, ready as a last resort.
